Summary
The Finish Line
2 Timothy 4:6-8, ESV
Current Sermon Series: 2 Timothy
Introduction: In these verses, Paul understands that his life is about to end. He is in a Roman jail with zero hope of release. He will die a martyr. In this text, we gain a glimpse of Paul’s mentality. These are the last words of this distinguished missionary, evangelist, and church planter.
Three Noteworthy Ideas as We Think About OUR Finish Lines:
- We All Have One (v. 6).
- We all have a finish line. _______ is no respecter of persons.
- Paul viewed his death as his final ________to God in a life that had already been full of sacrifices to Him.
- It Matters How and That You Get There (v. 7).
- Paul says, I have _____the race.
- It mattered to Paul that he got to the _______ line.
- Paul got to his finish line without being ________.
- Paul faithfully ________the deposit entrusted to him.
- The Participant's Prize (v. 8).
- What is the "crown of righteousness?"
- We are given the righteousness of ___________when we experience the new birth.
- Paul notes that he expected to receive such a crown along with all who have longed for the ___________appearing.
- One day each of us will stand before the ________ Judge, the Lord Jesus Christ.
Your Response: You are in a race! Your life is being poured out as a drink offering. Will you prove yourself faithful? May God help us all as we continue toward our finish lines.
